So we have propositional knowing (facts, beliefs, ideas) and non-propositional knowing (skills, perspectives, relationships), all of which happens in and through the body.
hey Sasha! good to hear from you and good to hear you jammed today :) if you feel like sharing, would love to hear if there is anything in particular here that is resonating.
As both a Feldenkrais practitioner and a Jungian Analyst, I love hearing you combine the two! (A definite “no no” during my own Feldy training…”). It’s often overlooked that Feldenkrais begins Body and Mature Behavior w “this is my answer to Freud…”. One would have to have actually read Freud (and I highly recommend you do!) to actually have a sense of what he means by that…. There’s LOTS to say about this, body, instinct, functionality, movement, mind, cognition, the Unconscious(!)…. Jung posits what he calls “the somatic unconscious” in his many discussions regarding the “subtle body”…. I written about it these elsewhere. Cheers all.
This mantra that the head is in the body. And the point that so many of us have head and neck issues in relationship to this disconnection. My own history of head trauma has greatly informed this notion in me. I'm starting to see an osteopathic doctor for post concussion care (finally!) and he affirmed for me that there is definitely still something not quite right in the way my head and neck are functioning. And I've had much experience of how the physiology can impact psychology through suffering with sensory sensitivity and mental health challenges as a result of head stuff. And so it's interesting to me to have another similar polarity reflected back to me because of its seeming relevance to my current experience. And I'm really appreciating your encouragement to shift priority to the non propositional space first and using that to inform the propositional
thanks for sharing all this. if you're looking for additional support with head and neck function, Candy Conino in Black Mountain comes to mind. she comes from the Feldenkrais world and is one of the most skilled practitioners I've come across.
I enjoy reading your writing immensely. I was at contact today so this resonates especially.
